Trzecia pełnoprawna odsłona kultowego cyklu gier RTS osadzonych w przestrzeni kosmicznej. Homeworld 3 stworzyło studio Blackbird Interactive, założone przez współtwórcę pierwszej części, odpowiedzialne też za Homeworld Remastered Collection oraz Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak.
Akcję gry Homeworld 3 osadzono po wydarzeniach przedstawionych w drugiej odsłonie cyklu. Dzięki sieci wrót hiperprzestrzennych, galaktyka co prawda regularnie pogrążała się w konflikcie, jednak po każdej wojnie przychodził okres pokoju i dostatku. Kiedy jednak owe bramy zaczynają zawodzić, wielu dostrzega jedyną szansę na ratunek w Karan, darzonej przez nich niemal boską czcią.
