Po wylądowaniu Boeinga na lotnisku Kennedyego załoga samolotu nie odpowiada na wezwania radiostacji. Zaangażowani w akcję ratunkową epidemiolodzy odkrywają, że poza czterema pasażerami cała załoga jest martwa a na pokładzie znajduje się trumna. Wkrótce grupa naukowców wraz z dr Ephraimem Goodweatherem (Corey Stoll) na czele mierzy się z nowym, nieznanym dotąd wirusem, który zmienia ludzi w żądne krwi stworzenia.
