Funkcjonariusz policji Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) pod wieloma względami przypomina szeryfa z Dzikiego Zachodu. Pomimo manier dżentelmena pozostaje nieustępliwy i bezwzględny wobec łamiących prawo. Jego twarda i bezkompromisowa walka w obronie sprawiedliwości nie podoba się przełożonym policjanta. W wyniku konfliktu z szefostwem Givens zostaje przeniesiony na służbę do rodzinnej miejscowości. Mężczyzna musi uporać się z własną przeszłością - dorastaniem w Kentucky i problemem ojca, który był przestępcą. Givens wciąż poszukuje na pytanie, kim właściwie jest. W 2011 roku serial był nominowany do nagrody Emmy w trzech kategoriach. Jury doceniło wówczas Margo Martindale jako odtwórczynię najlepszej roli drugoplanowej.
